A Day in the Life

I have blogged regularly for about six months now. I started this blog a year and half ago and it sat here growing mold after only a couple of posts before I got back into it a little over a year later. I had no idea what blogging was but figured it was a good platform to put my occasional (at the time) writings “out there.” I was not sure the goal but thought it would be fun to have a storage site for thoughts. I remember not having any idea what to do the first time someone commented on a post. It confused me how they even came across it because I had not followed anybody’s blog yet. Since then, I have gotten the hang of it and while I used to post every couple of weeks at the most, I now post at least two or three times weekly. It is like an addiction that I consider healthy.

It seems that the more we write, the more we want to write. Once you get those mental juices flowing there is no stopping the current, unless you actually stop, then sometimes it is hard to get them going again. I am going off on a tangent…back to the point that I have immersed myself into blogging so much that I make time for it. Isn’t it funny how we can feel completely over extended with things to do in our daily lives yet we can easily make time for something we love? Until my daughter started kindergarten, I did not wake to an alarm since having children because they are my alarm but when school started, I set one to have enough time to get us all ready. I dreaded her first day of school for this very reason. Yet, now I set my alarm on the weekends because I have found that quiet time in the mornings is so nice to drink coffee and catch up on reading the blogs I follow.

I would never have thought that I would be the type of person to have virtual friendships; that seemed so strange to me. Now I consider quite a few bloggers “friends”so much so that having only viewed their gravatar, I swear I saw Rachel from mummy flying solo at the gas station  the other day. And another day, I almost said hello to someone who looked just like Kate from Did That Just Happen Blog at the grocery store. Then, I had a dream about Valerie at Atlantamomofthree being pregnant and I was helping her deliver her baby (scary thought!).

You might all be thinking I need to get a life, but rest assured that I have one, a very happy one indeed filled with my little family, extended family and wonderful friends doing fun outings, going out to dinner, playing in the yard and laughing so I am not hooked to my computer all the time but still my fellow bloggers have touched me in many ways.

Every night before bed I take my dogs outside one last time and I gaze at the stars letting the day’s events come to a close in my mind. Last night after closing up my blog reading for the night and settling into my book before sleep, I walked outside and as I was staring up at the sky, I wondered what Scottishmomus was doing. So many “friends” live so far away from me yet we all connect here. Then I wondered if Jhanis of Fascinations of Vanilla Housewife was tinkering around on the computer in the wee hours of the morning after getting home from work. Was Eszter of kukolina just waking up in her beautiful hotel in Thailand taking pictures of her precious son Zoard? All of these lovely people cross my mind at various points in my day.

So that leads me to the point of this post, I would love to do a “Day in the Life” link up with whomever is interested. Basically, write a post linking back to this post with what your day looks like starting from the moment you wake up all the way until you go to sleep at night. I will link back to whoever participates too! You can do it anyway you like, whether you have a fast-paced life and live minute to minute or you have more of an hour to hour schedule. Maybe you do a similar thing in chunks of time and don’t want to post redundancy. Any way you like is fine. But I think it would be fun to imagine our friend’s lives in this way. Is every day different? My days are pretty different but the weeks are roughly the same. Let’s start next Monday. You have one week to map out your days for everybody to see. I will post next Monday, October 21st with a day in my life and will do it each day of that week through Friday, October 25th. I hope you will join me!

Happy Monday!

  1. Haha, I can relate to this whole post, Kerry!! And even though I’d love to BE preggo, I am not (at the moment) but you are welcome to help deliver my next baby, when the time comes! lol
I have been thinking about doing “a day in the life” post, so I will try to get that done soon so I can link up with you!

  2. I had to laugh at your thoughts about what I was doing LOL and of course I am in. It’s gonna be like getting to share a whole week with my favorite bloggy friends. 🙂 Find a great image that you like, I’ll make a button for your series. That way we can all use it on our posts to link back to you. 🙂

  3. I think about my virtual friends, too. Little did you know Scottishmomus was emailing pictures of her bath-bubbly leg to her whole contact list. I’m still laughing about that! I have 4 kids in the house at the moment, with our foreign exchange student from China, and Mondays through Friday go by like a brush fire, especially because the 21st is my oldest’s 12th birthday, and I will just be back from my first writer’s conference (!!!). But if I can, I would love to swing by with a few juicy tidbits. Can’t wait to see the news. Hugs, Brenda

  4. I did not, Brenda! My bloody phone has a life of its own!
I’ll start you off right now, Kerry.Just back in from grocery shopping and thought I would dare put the battery back in my phone and try again. Yeah, I know. Eternal optimist. Big piles of shit mean a pony.
It came on and started downloading emails and texts fast and furiously. I couldn’t open either of the apps. Then finally, the text app opened and all I saw was the start of one from my sister saying, ‘Are you ok, sis, you’ve just sent me the same….’ I didn’t read any further. Pulled the bloody battery out.
Fortunately, I had been smart enough today to disconnect my phone from uploading to Twitter.
Well, you never know what I might fancy taking a photo of next!
I am in disgust with technology. ‘cept for my laptop ‘cos she’s my baby.
I’m going round to my sister’s right now (7 doors away) with a bottle of red wine. And I hope she’s got some in ‘cos I’m gonna drink all of mine.
And that’s how my day is going. I won’t tell you the rest ‘cos there’ll probably be a fair bit of cursing of technology.
I’ve found my ‘old’ smartphone and I’m charging it up. But I’m scared to put the sim card in. Fear of phones. I bet there’s a term for that. Hold on. I’m gonna look it up. Then I’m going out to get merry.
Here you go….Telephone phobia (telephonophobia, telephobia) Not exactly original is it?
Anyway. ten minutes and I’m outta here.
    Blog free zone tonight.
But, I’ll be onto the other next week, I think. I’m on holiday this week so it doesn’t count as nprmal. As you may have guessed. ;)x

  5. Aw – I’m in! This sounds fab – and I promise there won’t be too many crying episodes 😉
Seriously though, I’ve been thinking about doing this for a while, as I’d really like to provide an example of my days at home with the boys (gawd, never a dull moment!). I think it will be great! Like you, I often think about you all and what you are up to. The words we all write transcend time and distance and bring us together in such an incredible way. I love it.

  6. I love this idea and I love this post. I feel exactly the same way about blogging. I also started 18mths ago and then left it for a year before getting back to it! Bizarre! Anyway, I’m going away next week but we have a pretty scheduled week so I’m going to try to write these in advance and schedule. I’ve never done a link up before. Do I just write the post and mention the link up to this post at the end????

  7. This sounds awesome! I’d love to participate 🙂 And I can totally relate to your post haha. I’m loving some of the blogging friends I’ve made 🙂

  8. I am IN! I agree with you on wondering what our fellow bloggers are up to. It’s hard not to get attached t some of these terrific writers!

    • It really is! I was thinking about you last week because after reading your homecoming post, I noticed it was ours last week too and my daughter was so excited to get to see the parade during school 😉
